OK guys, I know you were getting worried because I didn't post my columns yesterday. My bad. I had to concentrate on my edumication for a minute by studying for two final exams that I had today. They went very well if you were wondering. But lets get back to the NBA. I am actually mad at myself for not writing articles the past couple days because I really have some important advice for you all, especially in my "Stock Watch" column, "The Fall of a King" (I highly recommend it). Wednesday was a big day with 20 teams playing so lets get to it!
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks had an impressive performance handing the Nuggets just their second loss in 10 games. Joe Johnson has been a mad man scoring and although he couldn't keep his streak of 6 stright 30 point games alive, he finished with 27 including two 3's, 7 reb, and 4 ast. Josh Smith showed why he is going to dominate for the rest of the season. He shot a much better percentage(4-7) with two 3's and snatched 11 reb while blocking 4 shots. I just traded for this guy and I suggest you do the same as you will read in "Stock Watch". Salim Stoudamire has been getting some PT and we all know from his college days that he is an assasin from 3pt range. He nailed another trio of treys last night and is now shooting 11-18 from distance in his last 4 games! If you need 3's this guy could be your answer. Wow the Hawks are a hot topic right now! Marvin Williams has be cleared to play and he could be returning to action soon. I'm assuming he will take Shelden Williams' starting job almost immidiately. Coming off the wrist injury I'm not sure how consistent he will be but if he is on your waiver wire, you definitely want to pick this guy up. Once he starts playing, I see him averaging about 12 and 8 with 1 stl and 1 ast per game.
Boston Celtics
Al Jefferson did a good job filling in for Kendrick Perkins who is out for the next 3 weeks. Jefferson had 9 points and 12 reb. I think he will continue to average about 10 reb and I would suggest picking him up in all leagues. Gerald Green had a breakout game but I don't see him having much value going ahead.
Charlotte Bobcats
The Spurs totally shut down the Bobcats, but there was one bright spot for Charlotte. Gerald Wallace seems like hes pretty much at full strength and I think he's ready to start playing like the guy we thought he would be. Last night he had 15 pts, 7 reb, 1 blk and 1 stl.
Chicago Bulls
This team looks like it's really starting to gel. They exploded with 39 pts in the first quarter including 17 from Ben Gordon. Luol Deng had a double double with 21 and 10 and he has probably been the Bulls most consistent player. Ben Gordon, although he scored 31 last night, has been so inconsistent that it's hard to trust him in your lineup.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavs had an average game. Lebron was god as usual and Damon Jones hit a few 3's. Two things stood out to me though. Drew Gooden finished with a big squadoosh in the scoring column. Gooden has been inconsistent as of late, but owners should not give up on him. The other thing that stood out was Daniel Gibson getting his first start of the season. You may ask yourself, as I did, "Who the heck is Daniel Gibson?" Well aparently he is a rookie and plays for the Cavs and in his first start of the season he played 36 minutes and scored 18 pts on 6-12 shooting with 5 reb, 2 ast, and 3 treys. I still have no idea who this guy is but if he continues to start, keep an eye on him.
Denver Nuggets
The Nugs have been on fire as of late, but lost 98-96 to the Atlanta Hawks. Camby filled up the stat sheet with 11 pts, 15 reb, 8 ast, 3 stl and 2 blk. It is a miracle that he hasn't gotten hurt yet, but now that I say that, he will probably go down tomorrow. Melo went for 24 and 7 but only made 11-27 and continued his giving ways, dishing out 5 turnovers.
Houston Rockets
Yao and T-Mac had off nights and the Rockets lost to the T-Wolves. McGrady shot just 5-21 from the field and had 5 TO, but he did help out with 10 reb and 7 ast. Yao shot 5-19 and had only 8 reb while adding to his aweful TO total with 7 on the night.
Indiana Pacers
Jeff Foster had 8 pts and 18 reb for the second time in three nights and deserves to be picked up in all leagues. Tinsley didn't score much but he had 8 ast in the game and has stayed healthy so far this season. Stephen Jackson went off with 26 points but I don't see him doing that often.
Los Angeles Lakers
Kobe had 24 and 7. Odom had 20 and 7 but also had 7 TO
Memphis Grizzlies
Chucky Atkins is the clear-cut starting PG. Mike Miller can shoot 3's. Thats all you need to know about the pathetic Grizzlies right now.
Milwaukee Bucks
Michael Redd and Ruben Patterson had big games going for 33 and 26 respectively and they both added 7 reb. Charlie Bell fell back to earth going 1-8 from the field and scoring just 6 points.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Garnett did what he always does, 24 and 12. Mike James may have broken out of a slump with a second straight solid performance. I've had him on my bench for a while, but it may be time to get him back in there.
New Orleans Hornets
Chris Paul: 26 pts, 11 ast, 6 reb
Tyson Chandler: 10 pts, 13 reb
New York Knicks
The Knicks suck. This is obvious. However, Eddy Curry has become a fairly dependable fantasy player.
Orlando Magic
Dwight Howard is my man!!! 20 and 8
Philidelphia 76ers
The 76ers got trounced by the Bulls and Iverson got hurt.
Portland Trailblazers
Other than Zach Randolph and Jarett Jack, the rest of the jointblazers look stoned. Randolph was at it again last night with 20 and 14. Jarett Jack scored a career high 30 and added 10 assists.
San Antonio Spurs
Duncan had 25 but only 4 reb.
Toronto Raptors
TJ Ford had 8 pts and 10 ast and remains a solid source of ast. Bosh went for 18 and 12. Barnani put up 14 and it may be time to pick this guy up if he is still available in your league.
Washington Wizards
I would be really excited about the game that the Wizards played last night.......but it was against the Knicks. Gilbert Arenas and Antoine Jamison were dualing Wizards each working their magic from the 3 pt line. Each hit 6 3's and they finished 12-17 combined from deep. Arenas finished the game with 38 and Jamison with 33.
